maybe the difference is...

...in nothing more than levels of conviction?

I'm not ready to start a war to defend a pedagogically effective approach to learning technologies.

well, actually I'm sure these missionaries weren't either.

So I'm thinking the difference is that if you get a job in an organisation, then you're agreeing to their terms, their ways of working. And so although almost no one enjoys change, and in all organisations there's resistance to change, if there's a good way to speed up a change that has been agreed needs to be made, and is in line with the organisation's mission as a whole, then I should feel OK about taking this approach.

Which means the difference is only one of context.
